Basic performance and characteristics of FPC connector:
The basic properties of FPC connectors can be divided into three categories: mechanical properties, electrical properties and environmental performance.
1. in terms of mechanical function, plug and draw force is an important mechanical property. The insertion force is divided into insertion force and pull-out force (pull-out force, also called separation force). The requirements are different. In the relevant standards, there are the maximum insertion force and minimum separation force, which indicates that the insertion force is small from the use point of view (the structure with low insertion force LIF and no insertion force ZIF), and the small separation force will affect the reliability of the contact.
Another important mechanical property is the mechanical life of connectors. Mechanical life is actually a kind of durability (durability) index. It is called mechanical operation in national standard GB5095. It is based on a single insertion and one pullout as a cycle to determine whether the connector can properly complete its connection function (such as the contact resistance value) after the specified plug - in cycle.
The pluggable force and mechanical life of the FPC connector are related to the quality of the contact parts (sliding friction coefficient) and the alignment of the contact parts (alignment).
2. electrical performance
Electrical properties mainly include contact resistance, insulation resistance, current and electrical strength.
Contact resistance: high quality electrical connectors should have low and stable contact resistance. The contact resistance of connectors varies from several milliohms to tens of milliohms.
Insulation resistance: the index of insulation property between contact parts and contact parts and outer shell of electrical connector, which ranges from a number of Gigabit to several gigabys.
Electrical strength or voltage resistance: the capacity to withstand the rated test voltage between the connector contacts or the contact parts and the shell depends on the gap between the circuits (i. e. the distance to the contact piece distance) and the insulating material used in the connector.
Current: the electrical connector and the wire terminated.
Other electrical performances include EMI leakage attenuation, which is used to evaluate the shielding effect of the connector, and is generally tested in the frequency range of 100 MHz to 10 GHz.
For RF coaxial connectors, there are also characteristic impedance, insertion loss, reflection coefficient, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) and other electrical indicators. Due to the development of digital technology, in order to connect and transmit high speed digital pulse signals, a new type of connector, such as high-speed signal connector, has appeared. In the field of electrical performance, there are some new electrical indexes, such as crosstalk (crosstalk), transmission delay (delay), time delay (skew) and so on, in addition to the characteristic impedance.
3. environmental performance
Common environmental properties include temperature resistance, moisture resistance, salt spray corrosion and so on.
