2.54mm Pitch Friction Lock Female Header Connector Dual Row 2x20 Polarized Keyed Ramp Socket

A plain female header relies on contact friction alone to stay mated, which is adequate on a bench and inadequate on anything that moves. This 2.54mm friction lock version adds a moulded ramp on the body wall that engages a latch on the mating header, so the pair cannot separate under vibration or a cable pull. A polarizing key in the same body guarantees that the connector only goes together one way, eliminating the reversed insertion that destroys boards during field service.

The locking ramp is moulded in PA6T together with the body rather than added as a separate clip, which removes an assembly step and a loose part from the bill of materials. Contact springs are unchanged from the standard dual row design, so electrical performance matches a conventional 2.54mm header while the mechanical interface is upgraded. The latch can be released with a thumb tab, so boards remain serviceable without tools.

Locking headers are specified where a cable or a daughter board could otherwise work loose. Automotive body control modules use them for harness interfaces that see continuous road vibration, appliance controllers use them where a service technician may pull a loom, and industrial drives use them for encoder and sensor connections in equipment that is moved between sites. They also appear in access control hardware, vending electronics and test fixtures where repeated connection and disconnection must not wear the latch or reverse the polarity.

Positions from 2 x 2 to 2 x 20 are cut from strip without tooling charges, and we can supply the mating male header with the matching latch so the pair is tested together. Options include a strain relief shroud, a right angle version for side entry, selective gold at 0.38 or 0.76 micron, and a PA9T body for higher reflow temperatures. Our engineers can also supply a version with a secondary locking feature for automotive harness standards, together with the mating force and retention test data required for PPAP submission.

Each connector is counted into anti-static shielding bags with a desiccant sachet and a humidity indicator card, then packed into export-grade corrugated cartons carrying the CNJWY neutral label. Inner foam inserts keep the contact field clear of the carton wall, and carton gross weight is held under 15 kg so that air freight handling limits are respected. Sea freight shipments are palletised, stretch wrapped and strapped against container humidity. Own-brand labels, barcoded cartons and drop tested inner boxes can be supplied for distributors, and every lot ships with a dimensional report, a plating thickness certificate and a RoHS declaration taken from the same production batch.
